The house

Set up the way we'd want a place to be

Tipsy Palm Villa is a 1,200 sq ft single-level bungalow built in 2018: an open-plan living, dining and kitchen under a vaulted ceiling, two bedrooms (a king, and two twins that join into a king on request), two full bathrooms with walk-in showers, and a deck with an outdoor dining table, a Weber grill and an outdoor shower for rinsing off the sand. It sleeps four comfortably, and up to six with small children.

What makes it different from most houses on the island is what you never have to think about: a whole-home generator that starts itself when island power blinks, Starlink wifi fast enough to stream or work, and a mini-split air conditioner in every room.

A real kitchen

Beach chairs, a large umbrella, a beach tent, beach towels, snorkel masks and life jackets are in the house. Games, puzzles and the Eleuthera beach guidebooks too.

Ten Bay Beach is about 200 yards from the house along a deeded beach path. The water is calm, shallow and clear, the kind children can wade in all day, and at low tide the sandbars open up for long walks. Some days you'll spot starfish, sand dollars, bonefish, and, on a lucky one, dolphins.

Ten Bay is on the quiet Caribbean side of Central Eleuthera, part of the Savannah Sound settlement. Governor's Harbour, with restaurants, groceries and the Friday fish fry, is about 20 minutes north; Turtle Beach, where sea turtles feed in the shallows at morning high tide, is two miles down the road.

Getting here: most guests fly into North Eleuthera (ELH), about 1 hour 20 minutes by car; Governor's Harbour (GHB) is 30 minutes. A rental car is essential.

Simple, all-in pricing

Our nightly rates include cleaning and Bahamas VAT. There are no service fees, no cleaning fee and no taxes added at checkout; the rate you see is the price you pay.

We fell in love with Eleuthera on our very first trip down, and our son Win now counts down the days until we're back. What keeps pulling us here is how untouched it still is: empty beaches, quiet roads, water so clear you can see your feet, and a pace of life that resets you within a day of landing.

Back home in Charlotte, North Carolina, Kristie works in interior design and Devin in construction, which is probably why we couldn't resist a house of our own here. Our housekeeper, Terry, lives nearby and keeps everything running when we're not there; she's your first call on the island for anything at all.

Ten Bay is our home beach, but ask us about Receivers Beach and French Leave too; they're the spots we send everyone. We're quick to respond and happy to share what we've learned.
